Today is Tuesday, the 17th of March, 2020 and this is the first post of the day.
Portugal experienced its first death due to the novel coronavirus in the past twenty-four hours. In terms of other countries, Portugal is still behind Canada in terms of the number of cases and deaths. The word on the street is that Portugal, as of tomorrow, will be shutting down and controlling access to all but essential services. This means that food shopping will be available along with access to pharmacies but will be controlled, as at present, but there will likely be police checks put in place to ensure that all non-essential travel is stopped to the greatest extent possible.
One again, we have done all of our shopping for the remainder of our time here. From this point on, we'll be essentially in self-imposed isolation until it's time for us to leave for the airport in Lisbon.
Since we are effectively in quarantine, we have lots of time to read and think --- activities that can be both good and not so good. The above article, from today's edition of the Globe and Mail, explores the differences between making a fair profit and price gouging. I recommend it to you for your consideration.
