Córdoba -- First Impressions
On Wednesday, 2020-02-26, after a leisurely breakfast, we hopped into our car, set the GPS for our hostal ¹ in Córdoba, Spain and headed off. We expected that we would have lots of time to cover the 350 km and arrive in plenty of time for our 3:00 PM check-in.
In almost no time we crossed the border into Spain. Checking the time on our cellphones, an hour and forty-five minutes had already passed.
Hold on! It seemed like less than an hour ago we were sipping our last espresso before leaving.
Ah, right. Spain is on Central European Time (CET), an hour ahead of Portugal so we had lost an hour. No problem. We'll still be in time for check-in but it'll be a bit tighter now.
As we drove toward Huelva, in the western part of Andalucia, we passed miles of greenhouses growing strawberries.
We hadn't realized that the berries we'd had on our cereal that morning were grown so close by.
¹ The word, hostal, is spelled correctly and it's meaning is different from hostel. The difference between hostal, hostel and hotel will be explained later in this post.
